RIA owner/developer MidCity will be embracing this year’s June 26th (Up)Rising Festival theme of collaboration by donating to the festival the large Brentwood Village Shopping Center parking lot to ensure there is plenty of room for residents and visitors from throughout Washington, DC to celebrate arts and small businesses at this annual community event.
(Up)Rising is an arts-focused festival that weaves its way through Rhode Island Avenue businesses, open areas and properties, encouraging neighbors to interact with the numerous small and locally owned businesses that are the backbone of the Rhode Island Avenue community.
This year, (Up)Rising explores the theme of creative collaborations – innovative and artistic ways to solve complex problems. The day includes performance and visual arts elements, hands-on activities, local food, drink, and retail vendors, as well as a chance to hang out with Rhode Island Avenue small business owners and employees. RIA’s ambitious 20-acre mixed-use development is designed to be the future centerpiece of the Rhode Island Avenue community and MidCity, with a 40-year history within this vibrant community, has a rich history of giving back and working to maintain the authenticity of the neighborhood.
RIA incorporates 21st century urban design principles to ensure the new community will be walkable, vibrant, and responsive to the living needs of its residents. The development will provide a variety of housing types – rental apartments, for sale townhomes, market rate options, senior living and affordable housing – all with the objective of creating economic, social, and other diversity in an aspirational 21st century community.
