Thanks to a new partnership with the Department of Employment Services, we are continuing to connect Brookland Manor residents with employment opportunities across the District!
Last week, D.C.’s Department of Employment Services (DOES) had their Workforce on Wheels (W.O.W.) team on site to provide access to the DOES job search database as well as to offer resume assistance and interview prep. This was the WOW team’s third trip to Brookland Manor since November.
DOES’ cutting-edge mobile service operation features workforce programming and employer services, preparing District residents for employment opportunities and connecting businesses with qualified applicants. Throughout the course of the day, dozens of residents showed up for career help.
Career assistance is a one of many community services MidCity invests in, along with a food pantry, health fair, meals for children, after-school tutoring, and summer camp. This fall, MidCity and DOES hosted a large career fair, bringing together 44 businesses and community benefit organizations with over 185 job seekers from across the District, including many Brookland Manor residents.
“Our mission at MidCity goes far beyond housing. We work every day to improve the community we serve here at Brookland Manor, and this career fair has opened doors of opportunity for many residents and connected them with critical resources,” said MidCity’s Director of Community Relations, Dr. Robert Johns.
At RIA, these services will expand to apprenticeship opportunities, computer literacy courses, a community health clinic, and further employment outreach.
If you are a resident who hasn’t paid the truck a visit yet, there are still plenty of opportunities! The WOW truck will continue to visit the site throughout the year. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for details.
